Senate Concurrent Resolution 601

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CENTREVILLE ACADEMY TIGERS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR PERFECT 1998 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Centreville Academy Tigers finished off a perfect 14-0 season by claiming the AAA state championship with a 41-7 win over Carroll Academy; and

WHEREAS, Centreville became the first MPSA school to win titles in three divisions: A, AA and AAA; and

WHEREAS, it was the Tigers' fifth state title overall; and

WHEREAS, Senior tailback Derek Tate proved to be the difference in the game for the Tigers as he scored three touchdowns, two of which came from 50 yards or more, and finished the championship game with 274 yards on 25 carries; and

WHEREAS, the effort put Tate over the 2,000-yard mark for the season; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this outstanding group of student athletes, who represent Mississippi's best and brightest:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Centreville Academy Tigers Football Team for their perfect 1998 season and for winning the AAA State Championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Lea E. "Bill" Hurst on behalf of the football team, the Headmaster of Centreville Academy, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
